Doctoral Studies
The hierarchy of advanced scientific degrees in Russia traditionally includes Doctor's degrees of two levels: Candidate of Sciences (Kandidat Nauk) and Doctor of Sciences (Doktor Nauk). The Candidate of Sciences degree normally requires three years of study after the award of Specialist or Master degrees. All PhD programs are taught only in Russian.

The Doctor of Sciences degree can be earned after a period of further study following the award of the Candidate of Sciences degree. Preparation of a dissertation in doctoral studies is carried out for up to 3 years. In reality, to earn a Doctor of Sciences degree requires five to fifteen years beyond the award of the Candidate of Sciences degree.
Admission to the doctoral program is carried out on a competitive basis in accordance with the List of research topics for the preparation of dissertations at Derzhavin University

The applicant must have:
a) An academic degree of Candidate of Sciences or an academic degree obtained in a foreign country recognized in the Russian Federation, the holder of which is granted the same academic and (or) professional rights as a candidate of sciences in the Russian Federation;
b) Experience of pedagogical and (or) scientific work for at least 5 years;
c) Work experience in the sending organization for at least 1 year;
d) Scientific achievements confirmed by a list of works published in peer-reviewed scientific publications and (or) patents for inventions, patents (certificates) for utility models, patents for industrial designs, patents for selection achievements, certificates of state registration of programs for electronic computers, databases, topologies of integrated circuits registered in accordance with the established procedure;
e) Dissertation preparation plan.
The applicant must have:
a) An academic degree of Candidate of Sciences or an academic degree obtained in a foreign country recognized in the Russian Federation, the holder of which is granted the same academic and (or) professional rights as a candidate of sciences in the Russian Federation;
b) Experience of pedagogical and (or) scientific work for at least 5 years;

1. Master's or specialist degree diploma + supplement with grades + consular legalization/apostille (if required) + notarized translations into Russian;
2. Copy of passport+ copy of Russian visa (if there is) +notarized translation of passport (if passport data is not duplicated in Russian);
3. Documents confirming the status of a compatriot (in the case of enrollment in a budget place on the line of a compatriot);
4.Essay on interested research topic (for applicants who apply for Russian Governmental Scholarships (quota for international students);
