The chess club of TSU "Derzhava Chess Club" held the first open tournament in the offline format. Schoolchildren and students of the region took part in the competition. Among the winners there were representatives of Tambov State University.
- I have been interested in chess since I was six, thanks to my father, who taught me to play it, - says Roman Pishchalnikov, a 4th year student of the Institute of Natural Science of TSU, a winner of the Open Championship of Derzhavin University. - In 2018 I became Tambov's vice champion among men in classical chess.
Chess Club "Derzhava Chess Club" appeared in TSU named after G.R. Derzhavin in April this year. Initially, the enthusiasts created the club as an online association. Then began to join not only students, but also chess fans from all over the Tambov region, including children.
Now it is planned to create two groups in the club: the elementary group - for children and the student group. The teams will be coached by experienced chess players, candidates for the master of sports.
- There are a lot of children applying to join the club. We also have players from other regions of Russia and even other countries: Algeria, Morocco, Malaysia and others, - said the head of "Derzhava Chess Club" Pavel Popov. - Our club will participate in the Cup of the National Student Chess League. We also plan to hold the Rector's Cup of Derzhavin University. We are waiting for everyone, because playing chess is an effective means of intellectual development.
