Fatekh Zereg began his academic path in Algeria, continued it at Tambov University, and then completed his PhD studies in Moscow. Today he lives and works as a coach in China.
Since childhood, Fatekh Zereg has been dreaming of combining science and sports. These interests determined his life path: the 2013 graduate of Derzhavin University today teaches at the Chengdu Sport University in China and trains student teams, while simultaneously developing cooperation between Russian and Chinese universities.
Zereg shared with us his story about his path in science and sports. He originally comes from Algeria. Exact sciences and football have been his main hobbies since early childhood. They became the basis of his future profession. The results of school exams allowed him to enter an Algerian university majoring in a technical specialty, and two years later he was enrolled in a sports institute. Doing courses in two different areas of study became an important stage for him, but Zereg decided to go further.
After graduating from university, he decided to continue his education in Russia. The choice was not accidental: in his hometown there is a big district where Russians live, and the head of a department at the Algerian university was Russian. According to Fatekh, a huge number of young people in Algeria dream of obtaining higher education in Russia, because they have many graduates of Soviet and Russian universities who work in various industries.
- When I was studying at the university in Algeria, I firmly decided that I should enroll in a master's program at a Russian university. I chose a sports specialty, although I also have a technical education. I was interested in the system of training Russian athletes, and the organization of the physical education system in educational institutions. From the information that I had, I realized that I would be able to find answers to these questions at Derzhavin Tambov State University. And I was not mistaken in my choice. I am very grateful to Derzhavin University, - underlined the coach.
Among many Russian universities, Fatekh chose Derzhavin University and started the master's program in Physical Education. Here he was not only awarded a master’s degree with honors, but was also actively doing sports.
— I love sports. In addition to football, I did boxing, kung fu, karate. At Derzhavin University, I was into polyathlon. As part of the university team, I became a prize winner in this sport, - says Fatekh.
After completing his master's degree in Tambov, Zereg continued his education in Moscow, doing a PhD program at Russian University of Sports, at the Department of Handball Theory and Methodology. He defended his PhD thesis, and soon received an offer to work in China.
Today, Fatekh Zereg is a lecturer at Chengdu Sport University and a coach for men's and women's soccer teams in Sichuan Province.
— I currently work at Chengdu University of Sport at the Department of Football Theory and Methodology. This is the most famous university in southwest China. It is one of the top five universities in China. The university is a recognized leader in such sports as football, gymnastics, martial arts, weightlifting, and it also enjoys authority in sports medicine, — he noted.
Chengdu University actively cooperates with Derzhavin University. The universities implement joint educational programs of bachelor's and master's degrees. Fatekh Zereg plays an important role in this process.
- Our countries and peoples are united by long-standing friendship. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to gain higher education in Russia. I am for open cooperation between the two universities. This is a great chance for Derzhavin University students to study at Chengdu University. I know that many Russian students are interested in Chinese medicine, Chinese sports, martial arts, so we always welcome your students in our country. Young people from China also participate in Derzhavin University educational programs. They come to Tambov to study in master's of PhD programs. Chinese students find this opportunity a great piece of luck, - Zereg emphasized.
It is with great warmth that Zereg remembers his teachers and instructors. He is especially thankful to Anton Ryazanov, a teacher and coach of the university football team, for his significant role in Zereg’s life.
— Derzhavin University has experienced professional teaching staff. I always recommend my Chinese students to continue their studies at your university. I would especially like to single out my mentor and scientific supervisor Anton Ryazanov. His talent and professionalism are very valuable to me, — Fatekh said.
Zereg ends his story with advice that he considers to be the most important thing in life.
- The most important thing is to use all the opportunities and chances that life provides us with to achieve our goals,” Fatekh emphasized.
