A cultural and educational project titled "China Week in the Tambov Region" has begun in the region. This large-scale event, running from October 12 to 17, brings together Sinologists, scholars, cultural figures, and representatives from universities in both countries.
The project aims to deepen and develop Russian-Chinese relations, strengthen humanitarian ties, and promote Chinese culture within the region. During the week, international cooperation agreements will be signed with Chinese partners.
The event is organized by the G.R. Derzhavin Tambov State University, with the support of the Tambov Region Government, the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society (RCFS) and its regional branch, and the autonomous non-profit organization "White Elephant" (Tambov Center for Cooperation with Asian Countries).
"The 'Cross-Years' of education between Russia and China—an initiative announced by the leaders of our nations, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping—provide an excellent opportunity for Derzhavin University to expand its ties with China," says Pavel Moiseev, Rector of the G.R. Derzhavin Tambov State University and Chairman of the Tambov regional branch of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Society. "This is the fourth time we have hosted 'China Week in the Tambov Region,' and each iteration has made our university’s engagement with Chinese partners increasingly intensive and substantive. Furthermore, 'China Week' serves as a vital platform for a dialogue between our cultures. In this capacity, our university acts as a focal point for interest in China within the Tambov region—an interest that extends beyond history and culture to the development of business connections and interregional cooperation." By developing educational programs and student exchanges, planning joint scientific research, and promoting the interests of government and business, Derzhavin University contributes to the strategic partnership between Russia and China in the 21st century.
The "China Week" will feature a delegation from the Central Board of the Russia-China Friendship Society, led by Deputy Chairmen Leonid Petukhin and Yuri Tavrovsky.
The academic program includes over 20 lectures and seminars delivered by faculty from Chinese universities, as well as the 15th International Scientific Conference, "Language, Culture, and Professional Communication in Modern Society," and a round-table discussion on "Sports Training in Russia and China."
Distinguished guests at "China Week" will include Ren Guangxuan, a scholar of Russian studies and professor at Peking University, who will present his book *History of Russian Literature*, and Russian Sinologist Yuri Tavrovsky—author of a series of books on contemporary China, including *The New Silk Road: The Major Project of the 21st Century*, *Xi Jinping: Climbing the Steps of the Chinese Dream*, *Xi Jinping: A New Era*, *America vs. China*, and *Ukrainian Threats to Beijing*.
Furthermore, a cultural program is planned, featuring the presentation of a poetry collection titled *Creative Debuts of Chinese and Russian Philology Students*; an exhibition of paintings by artists from the PRC, *Chinese Palette*; various creative workshops and masterclasses on traditional Chinese culture; and a concert marking the grand opening of the Russia-China Festival of Education and Culture.
A significant highlight of the program is the participation of a representative delegation from Shanxi University. As part of the event, a performing arts group from the Chinese university will tour the region, presenting concerts in the towns of Kotovsk and Rasskazovo. This will make it possible to expand the project’s reach and introduce the region’s residents to Chinese musical culture.
The project will conclude with a program for children, featuring creative workshops.
