Derzhavin Lyceum students Darya Shlykova, Darya Chernyshova, and Yulia Gushchina took part in the "Circle of Friends" international program at the "Orlyonok" All-Russian Children's Center. The project brought together active teenagers from Russian regions and 20 foreign countries.
The program aimed to strengthen friendships among youth from BRICS, SCO, and CIS countries, promote spiritual and moral values, foster intercultural dialogue, and introduce participants to Russia's cultural diversity.
Over the course of three weeks, the students learned the fundamentals of youth diplomacy and engaged in cross-cultural dialogue. They participated in creative workshops, language competitions, and discussions, discovering language as a tool for inspiration and intercultural exchange.
"This was my first time at a camp, and it’s an experience I’ll remember for a long time. It was fascinating to interact with peers from around the world and attend workshops led by native Chinese speakers," said Darya Shlykova, a student at Derzhavin Lyceum. "I tried many new things here—including rowing—and learned about the tea ceremony and Chinese calligraphy. Most importantly, I felt like part of a large, multinational team."
Under the guidance of experienced mentors, the students created collaborative projects reflecting their countries' cultural characteristics: they showcased original arts and crafts, learned national dances, and explored the rich folklore heritage of various peoples.
Events for the students included a Friendship Day, a cultural festival, and a literary-artistic evening titled "In the Beginning Was the Word." The program culminated in the "Great Discoveries" festival, where teams presented their cultural and educational projects and hosted interactive "journeys." "The session at Orlyonok was absolutely magical. Most of all I remembered the activities at the Russian-Chinese Center for Cultural and Language Exchange, where we worked with instructors from China," said Darya Chernyshova. "We didn't just practice the language; we also explored Chinese traditions—making lanterns, trying our hand at knot-tying, and holding tea ceremonies. It’s very sad to part ways; I’m going to miss the other participants and this unique atmosphere terribly."
At the end of the session, participants received certificates, while contest winners were awarded commendations and diplomas.
