Every year on May 9, the Derzhavin University community, along with the entire nation, celebrates the great holiday – Victory Day. On this day, commemorative events, thematic exhibitions, and meetings take place. In a gesture of boundless gratitude and eternal remembrance of the warriors who defeated fascism in 1945, staff members, professors, and students of Tambov State University laid flowers at the "Alley of Glory" Memorial and the graves of heroes. The "Alley of Glory" Memorial Complex was erected for the 75th anniversary of Victory on the University campus and has since become a gathering place for citizens of all ages.
In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, Derzhavin University approached the preparation and execution of commemorative events with special responsibility. In addition to a series of academic, educational, sporting, and cultural events, this year, ahead of May 9, the University launched the "Family Stories of Victory" project, which sparked keen interest and engagement among students and professors.
A separate focus of the preparations involved updating and expanding the information at the "Alley of Glory" Memorial. Over several months, a research team of students and professors used archival data and digital resources to compile a database of soldiers and officers who went to the fronts of the Great Patriotic War from the university’s classrooms or who became part of its community in the postwar years. As a result, nearly 200 veterans were honored anew for the Victory anniversary.
- For me, the anniversary of the Great Victory is a deeply personal, family story, commented Rector of Derzhavin University, Pavel Moiseev. - The war touched every home, every workplace. Every time I visit our 'Alley of Glory' Memorial, I feel pride for our people. I am proud of our colleagues, the staff members and professors of past years, who fought with weapons in hand to secure the right to life for all of us. Today’s flower-laying ceremony is a tribute to the heroes who look down on us from the restored photographs on the Memorial.
