"Gavriil Romanovich Derzhavin is the author of the unofficial Russian national anthem, 'The Thunder of Victory, Resound!', which was written after the capture of the Izmail Fortress under the command of Alexander Suvorov. Today, at the unveiling of the Derzhavin monument in Tambov, the Russian National Anthem is being played in his honor, and this is gratifying," said Vladimir Medinsky, Aide to the President of Russia. "A great deal of work remains to be done for the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Tambov Viceroyalty. Much will be done to improve the city, making it even more beautiful, well-maintained, and comfortable to live in. The fact that we are beginning this work with the unveiling of the Derzhavin monument is highly symbolic. Derzhavin is one of the most outstanding ministers in Russian history; he wholeheartedly supported justice, law, and order. We are beginning this work with the unveiling of the monument—it's a major first step."
