Derzhavin University Associate Professor Oleg Shadsky is participating in the international scientific and practical conference "The Nuremberg Trials in Contemporary Aspects of International Law, Politics, and History" as part of the international Forum "The Nuremberg Trials and Contemporary International Law." The academic event is taking place at the MITSO International University in Minsk.
This large-scale conference has brought together several hundred participants from various countries. This year, it is dedicated to current issues in the study of various aspects of the Nuremberg Trials. Topics discussed at the forum include the manifestation of fascist ideology and the fight against it after World War II, legal aspects of the Nuremberg Trials, and the contribution of the Nuremberg Trials to the development of international law. Oleg Shadsky, Associate Professor of the Department of Constitutional and International Law at the Institute of Law and National Security, presented a paper entitled "On Critical Assessments of the Jurisdiction and Procedure of the Nuremberg Trials" at the session "The Nuremberg Trials: Legal Aspects."
"I devoted my presentation to an analysis of the main criticisms leveled, primarily by Western scholars, against the International Military Tribunal of 1945-1946," said Associate Professor Oleg Shadsky. "While some criticisms of the Nuremberg Tribunal's jurisdiction and procedure were well-founded, its legal foundation was impressive, and its proceedings were impartial. They met the highest legal standards. The Nuremberg Trials became the cornerstone of modern international criminal law and marked the triumph of law over barbarity."
