A ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 90th anniversary of historical education in Tambov region was held at Derzhavin University. Representatives of the rector's corps, teachers and students of the university, graduates of the history department of different years, veterans of teaching activities gathered in the hall of the Educational Theatre.
In 1934, at the Tambov State Pedagogical Institute, on the basis of the decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR and the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) "On the Teaching of Civil History in Schools of the USSR", a History Department was opened, where the training of history and social science teachers began at a professional level.
Over the years, the Tambov historical school, represented by authoritative scholars specializing in Russian and foreign history, has become widely known in Russia and beyond. Graduates of the Faculty have achieved professional success in many areas of activity — from education to public policy.
– Our University was founded in 1918. Initially, it consisted of two faculties – pedagogical and agricultural. Then, as a result of reorganization, the History Faculty was born, which has always been not only the backbone of the University, but also a forge of management personnel. If you carefully study the nomenclature of leaders who have governed our region in different years, you can trace a certain pattern – the lion's share are graduates of the History Faculty, – noted the rector of Derzhavin University Pavel Moiseyev. – In addition, the History Faculty is the progenitor of new areas of training, such as jurisprudence, political science, journalism, international relations. To this day, the History Faculty has preserved continuity and academic reproduction of personnel. Today, the faculty is a large ecosystem that carries out educational, research and educational activities for the benefit of the region and the country.
Representatives of state authorities and local governments of the Tambov region came to congratulate one of the oldest faculties of Derzhavin University on its anniversary. At the award ceremony, they talked about the traditions and achievements of the History Faculty of Derzhavin University, the basis of which is the highest academic level of the teaching staff. After all, in different years, famous scientists in the country worked at the departments of general history and Russian history, who made a significant contribution to Russian science.
At the award ceremony, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Valery Kanishchev and Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Yuri Mizis received awards from the Government of the Tambov Region for many years of fruitful work, personal merits in training highly qualified specialists and scientific personnel in the field of historical science, active scientific work, significant contribution to the formation of the high status of the university.
The badge "For Merit to Tambov State University named after G.R. Derzhavin" was awarded to Associate Professor Vladimir Dyachkov, PhD in History.
Acting Director of the Institute of Education and Social Sciences Sergei Lyamin and Associate Professor Olga Zhalmenova PhD in History were awarded with Letters of Gratitude from the Tambov Regional Duma for achievements in the field of scientific and pedagogical activity, contribution to the development of historical education and in connection with the anniversary of the History Faculty.
Letters of Gratitude from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Tambov Region, the Tambov City Administration and the Tambov City Duma were also presented to the teachers of the History Department.
Graduates of the Faculty of History successfully work in the educational organizations, law enforcement agencies, cultural institutions, mass media, etc. A distinctive feature of the graduates of the Faculty of History is their active involvement in various institutions of state and municipal government, socio-political structures of the region. Among them are member of the Committee on International Affairs of the Council of the Federation of the Russian Federation Alexey Kondratyev, Chairman of the Tambov Regional Duma Evgeny Matushkin, Chairman of the Electoral Commission of the Tambov Region Andrey Ofitserov, Chairman of the Committee of the Tambov Regional Duma on Science, Education and Culture Svetlana Korosteleva, Director of the Tambov branch of RANEPA Alexey Ilyin, etc.
- I am a 1992 graduate of TSPI. For me and my classmates, the History Department is a love for centuries. It has always been the most powerful, intellectually developed department. Our teachers contributed to the formation, personal growth. The History Department allowed me to achieve success in my professional activities. For several years, I worked as a history teacher at school, then headed the Council of People's Deputies, - said Oleg Orlov, deputy of the Petrovka municipal district.
Over the 90 years of its existence, the faculty has undergone many structural transformations. In different years, the History Department was called: the Historical and Philological Faculty, the Institute of History and Political Science, the Academy of Humanitarian and Sociocultural Education, the Faculty of History, World Politics and Sociology. Today, it is called the Faculty of History, Political Science and Journalism.
Time moves inexorably forward, but one thing remains unchanged: the new generation of historians looks to the future with optimism, honors the traditions of the Tambov History Department, and preserves the memory and legacy of their teachers.
