Derzhavin University hosted the traditional Russian-Indian friendship festival, Diwali. This is one of the most significant holidays in Indian culture, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
The program included vibrant Indian dances, ethnic music, presentations of Diwali traditions and legends, and a tasting of traditional Indian cuisine by international students. The evening culminated in a dance flash mob to Bollywood beats, where everyone had the opportunity to learn the basics of Indian dance.
"It wasn't just a concert, but a true journey to India," said Matvey Grinev, a student at Derzhavin University. "The hall was decorated in the traditions of the holiday: diya oil lamps, decorative garlands, and elements of Indian art. The aromas of traditional sweets and spices filled the air. I learned a lot about the culture and traditions of this amazing country. We all had fun together, unaware that we were speaking different languages. The festive atmosphere was truly amazing.
The Diwali concert brought together both international and Russian students, enthusiasts of Indian culture.
"It's a great honour for us to share Indian culture with the people of Tambov," said Kumar, a Derzhavin University student from India. "We're glad we were able to create a piece of our home here in Russia and share a little bit of our light with you."
For over ten years, the Diwali festival has been held at Derzhavin University, which actively promotes international ties and intercultural exchange.
