Derzhavin University Cybersportsmen as part of two teams - "7 errors" and "4Pirates" - from the Tambov region took prize places in the final stage of the Sber Russian Cup in Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2 and Tekken 8. The games were held at the VK Play Arena.
According to Pavel Gorbunov, director of the digital sports club of Derzhavin University, this is the first time in the history of eSports that two teams from one region won a championship of this level. It is noteworthy that Derzhavin University is one of the centers for the development of eSports in the Tambov region. Since 2019, the Derzhava eSports club has been operating at the University, where participants have established an offline and online training process. – Over the years, we have accumulated quite a lot of achievements. This includes first place in the prestigious cybersport tournament “Battle for Science”, and victory in the Illuminational Dota 2 Challenger series competitions, and much more, – says Pavel Gorbunov. – Victory in the Sber Russian Championship in esports is not only the result of many months of training and hard work, but also confirmation that we can compete with the strongest! For the Tambov teams, this is a huge motivation to move forward, and for the Derzhava Club, it is a sign that we are on the right track in developing cybersport in our region. I would like to note that in parallel with their victory, the guys fulfilled the standards of the “Candidate for Master of Sports” category in cybersport.
In the Tekken 8 discipline, Tambov cybersportsmen became the first, and in Dota 2, both regional teams took first and second places.
– The final was quite easy for us. We have been playing together for a long time and this time we were stronger than our opponents. We did not prepare specifically for this opponent. I remember the Sber Russian Cup for its excellent organization and especially the ring from Sber – an interesting award, – summed up the results cyber sportsman Ivan Ilyichev. – This year we made it a double: we won both the championship and the Russian Cup. But our ambitions do not end there – we want to enter the world cyber sports scene. Be sure to follow our performance at the upcoming international tournaments.
