Vadim Volodin, a first-year student majoring in Applied Informatics at Derzhavin University, won the Russian Robotics Tournament. He took first place in the Mobile Robotics category of the Engineers category. His fellow student, Artem Artyomov, also achieved a strong result, taking fourth place.
The competition took place in Kaluga at the Federal Technopark for Professional Education. More than 200 participants from 17 regions of the country competed in three competencies: industrial, applied, and mobile robotics. Participants demonstrated their skills in assembling and configuring robotic systems and presented their projects in conditions as close as possible to modern production. The jury evaluated the projects based on the accuracy, speed, efficiency, and originality of their solutions.
In addition to the competition, participants attended expert consultations, a business program, and an exhibition displaying innovative developments.
“Preparing for the competition was a real challenge. I’d never worked with the VMX platform before. Plus, I didn’t have a robot to practice on. So, I prepared for the tournament on a tight schedule, studying only the official documentation. The most difficult part was programming the robot’s firmware. Ultimately, I controlled all modules of the robot, from line following to traversing a maze, manually using a joystick, which, of course, made the task more challenging. I had to adapt and find solutions quickly,” shared Vadim Volodin.
