Derzhavin University hosted a graduation ceremony for international students from the Institute of Medicine and Health Preservation from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, India, and other countries. This year, 329 graduates graduated from their alma mater, joining the ranks of qualified specialists. The medical student community remains the most representative: 277 future doctors from 25 countries received their diplomas.
Pavel Moiseev, Rector of Tambov State University named after G.R. Derzhavin, along with government officials and faculty from the Institute of Medicine and Health Preservation, addressed the graduates with welcoming remarks.
Representatives of foreign diplomatic missions took part in the celebratory events: Mr. Toufic Juama, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Russian Federation, and Mr. Abdelkader Arrar, Attaché of the Embassy of Algeria to the Russian Federation. Mr. Koffi Leon Konan, Ambassador of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire to the Russian Federation, also attended the diploma ceremony.
"Today marks the eleventh graduation of international medical students at Derzhavin University—a significant event for our university and its graduates. We are committed to ensuring that our students build a successful career path, so we create the necessary conditions for a high-quality education and further professional growth. We encourage our international students to always maintain their connection with the university," said Pavel Moiseev, Rector of Derzhavin University.
The Rector also announced the development of international projects. For example, Derzhavin University has created a digital educational resource, "Russian Language." The "Beginning" project, which, according to the Russkiy Mir Foundation, is one of the best innovative projects promoting the Russian language for Arabic-speaking students. In the near future, plans include developing joint educational programs in applied computer science and design, implementing academic mobility programs for students and faculty, including the "International Plein Air" program for Tambov students at Constantine III – Salah Bubnider University.
The solemn atmosphere was enhanced by the chamber choir of the Class of 2026, which performed the student anthem "Gaudeamus." Then came the moment of the Russian Physician's Oath. The professional oath was read by Oleg Fabrikantov, MD, Director of the Tambov Branch of the S.N. Fedorov Scientific and Technical Complex "Microsurgery of the Eye," and Professor.
Warm words of encouragement were extended to their colleagues by Menasira Abdessamad and Kresensia Mashauri, graduates of Derzhavin University from previous years. Current graduates also expressed their gratitude to their alma mater.
"Before enrolling at Derzhavin University, I studied economics and management for a year in Mohammedia, my hometown of Morocco. However, the most significant events that filled my life with meaning began in Russia during my fourth year of university and continue to this day. It was at that moment that I became actively involved in university life, made new friends, and felt a desire to help others," said Mohamed El Attari, a graduate of the General Medicine program at the Institute of Medicine and Health Preservation. "Volunteering is a way for me to express my gratitude to Russia, which gave me the opportunity to obtain a medical education. I intend to continue volunteering. And perhaps I will invite our international student volunteer group, GoodWin, to Morocco to introduce like-minded students to the culture of my country."
Currently, more than 2,300 international students from 63 countries study at Derzhavin University. This confirms the university’s high status as an internationally oriented university and one of the leading educational centers for training medical personnel.
