A memorial plaque dedicated to Professor Yuri Golovin, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation was unveiled on the facade of the building of the Scientific and Educational Center "Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology" of Derzhavin University. Scientists from TSU named after G.R. Derzhavin and Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, students and relatives of Yuri Golovin took part in the memorial ceremony.
- We unveiled a memorial plaque to a unique scientist, the founder of the nanotechnology movement in the Tambov region and in the Russian Federation. Golovin's name is widely heard in academic institutes, as he was a natural leader, an ideological inspirer, who for many years headed the nanocenter, which united passionate scientists, - noted Pavel Moiseev, rector of Derzhavin University. – Our interaction with Yuri Ivanovich Golovin began several years ago. Thanks to his contribution, our university became a participant in the federal project on scientific instrumentation; victory in the competition became possible thanks to his tireless work. Our main task is to develop his scientific legacy, to honor the memory of the eminent scientist. A logical continuation will be the perpetuation of the name of Yuri Ivanovich in the name of the scientific campus where he worked for many years. Yuri Golovin worked at Derzhavin University since 1981. In 2007, he organized and headed the Research Institute of Nanotechnology and Nanomaterials at the University, which became one of the leading regional university nanocenters and an official link in the National Nanotechnology Network (NNS) of Russia. With grant support, extra-budgetary funding sources and contracts, the scientist created 10 well-equipped laboratories and 25 jobs for young specialists. Under his leadership, more than 50 research projects have been implemented, including 30 in the field of nanotechnology.
Since 2009, Yuri Golovin worked part-time as a leading researcher at the Department of Chemical Enzymology of the Chemistry Faculty of Moscow State University. The scientist was a member of the International Council on Physics of Strength and Plasticity, and was a member of the International Association of Mechanochemists.
He gave more than a hundred plenary reports at major international conferences in Russia, the USA, Germany, France, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Spain, and Greece.
– The scientist went a long way – from an associate professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics to the director of the Institute of Mathematics, Physics, and Informatics. Golovin created an entire scientific school known in Russia and abroad, headed many scientific fields from nanotechnology, theranostics, and nanomedicine to physical materials science. Professor Golovin is remembered as a man of bright talent, original, extraordinary thinking. He is remembered for his incredible discoveries, into which he put his heart and soul, says Associate Professor Alexander Tyurin, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation.
Professor Golovin passed away in 2023, leaving behind a great scientific legacy. During the scientist's lifetime, more than 700 articles and reviews were published in peer-reviewed foreign and domestic journals, more than 10 monographs and textbooks were written, and about 100 patents for inventions were received.
For his great contribution to the development of higher education in the region and many years of fruitful scientific work, Professor Golovin was awarded the badge "For Services to the Tambov Region".
Those present at the memorial ceremony – followers of Yuri Golovin, friends of the family, relatives – spoke about the scale of the scientist’s personality, his breakthrough ideas, which still inspire new discoveries, recalled his inherent wisdom, diplomacy, high intellect, rare scientific gift and desire for knowledge.
- Yuri Golovin is the scientific supervisor who opened the way to science for me. Under his supervision, in 2006, I defended my dissertation “Spin aspects of photoconductivity of new molecular complexes of C60 fullerene with organic and organometallic donors” for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, - says Vyacheslav Rodayev, acting director of the Scientific and Educational Center “Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology” of Derzhavin University. - Golovin is a significant figure in science, he clearly identified pressing issues, boldly took on new projects, "infected" those around him with new scientific projects, and always brought what he started to the end. A deep bow to the outstanding scientist and bright memory.
