The International Festival “Family World” was held at the Derzhavin University on the Stromov Center site, timed to coincide with the Year of the Family declared in Russia.
The festival united young people from Russia, India, Algeria, South Africa, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and promoted the strengthening of family values and interethnic dialog, preservation of traditions and emotional closeness to the family, increasing social activity of students and revealing the creative potential of students of Derzhavin University.
– Student years is a time of opportunities to get education, start a family and have children. The University has worked out support measures for student families: a mother and child room has been opened, payments are provided upon marriage and birth of children, etc., – noted Elena Zueva, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at Derzhavin University. – Each strong family is based on mutual understanding and respect, care for family and friends, family values and an atmosphere of goodwill.
Participants and guests of the festival learned about the role of family in different countries, presented family traditions and customs of the peoples of the world.
- The tradition of India is to honor parents. No matter what happens in our lives, we can always go to our elders and get wise advice. We live together as a big family, we are united by love, responsibility and joint spiritual practices, - said Nandita Bisht, a sixth-year student of the Institute of Medicine and Health Preservation from India.- Being away from home, it is important for everyone to feel a sense of belonging to their family. Parents do a lot for the benefit of their children, so we should be grateful to those who gave us life, surrounded us with care and attention.
In the format of the teleconference, the topic of traditional family values was supported by representatives from Belarus and Kazakhstan.
The festival ended with a master class on making uniquely designed candles. The students created a symbol of home under the guidance of candle-making specialist Armine Kireeva.
