A working meeting was held at Derzhavin University under the chairmanship of Mikhail Belousov, the Russian Federation Senator from the Tambov Region. The participants discussed the issues of disseminating the Russian language among migrants as a key factor in the successful integration and socialization of citizens from neighboring countries into Russian society.
The senator was presented with the experience of the Local Center for Testing Foreign Citizens at Derzhavin University. The Center has been operating at the University since 2013. Its goal is to promote the dissemination of the Russian language as a language of inter-ethnic communication, strengthen its status, and increase its importance.
Until 2024, the Local Testing Center served as a platform for conducting exams for migrants, based on an agreement with RUDN. Following changes in legislation in December 2024, Derzhavin University was included in the list of state institutions authorized to conduct exams for migrants in the Russian language, Russian history and the fundamentals of Russian legislation. Exams are held at two sites - at the university at the address: Tambov, ul. Sovetskaya, 181k and at the passport and visa center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia at the address: Tambov, ul. Mayakovsky, 3.
– Currently, more than 2,000 international students from 56 countries are studying at Derzhavin University, – comments Yana Radyukova, Vice-Rector for Education, Youth Policy and Educational Work at Derzhavin University. – The University has significant experience in teaching foreign citizens. The Russian as a Foreign Language program is being implemented at the Institute of Continuing Education and Professional Retraining. In the 2024-2025 academic year, more than 100 Indian citizens completed training under this program, and another 120 foreigners will begin training from February to March. Derzhavin University is also actively developing testing for foreign citizens. From December 2024 to February 2025, the local testing center conducted 555 patent exams, 59 residence permit exams and 1 temporary residence permit exam. We are proud that our Center was chosen as a venue for exams, and we will continue to do our best to support the dissemination of the Russian language and the successful adaptation of foreign citizens in Russia.
At the meeting with the senator, aspects of educating migrant children in the region's comprehensive schools, and current issues of socio-cultural and labor migration of adults in the Tambov region were also discussed.
"It is necessary to know how the migration situation in the region is developing in order to make the right management decisions at the legislative level," noted Senator Mikhail Belousov. "I have taken control of the developments and proposals of Derzhavin University, the regional Ministry of Education and Science, and the Labor Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Tambov region - I will help resolve issues related to the adaptation and integration of migrants in the Tambov region at the federal level.
