A team of authors from Derzhavin University has completed the development of maps for an agroclimatic atlas of the Tambov Region. The project was developed at the Research and Educational Center for Ecology and Biotechnology at Tambov State University named after G.R. Derzhavin. The project authors were scientists and graduate students at the university, with grant support from the Russian Geographical Society.
Experts have already approved the atlas's structure, content, and design of the thematic maps.
"Climate change is a pressing issue right now, and agroclimatic reference books for the Tambov Region have not been published for over 30 years. Creating an atlas reflecting current values of key agroclimatic indicators is important, first and foremost, for agriculture," noted project leader Mikhail Bukovsky, PhD in Geographical Sciences and head of the Laboratory for Monitoring Agroclimatic and Water Resource Potential of Territories at Derzhavin University.
Tambov Oblast is a predominantly agricultural region, so the extensive work done by the developers of the regional agroclimatic atlas maps will benefit the region's agricultural sector.
