Viktoria Nikitina and Anastasia Kostina, students from Derzhavin University and activists of the Tsunami | Derzhava Media media center, were named winners of the 5th Summer School of Journalism. Along with a team of students from other regions, the girls presented a project dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. It won the award, and as a reward, the Derzhavin students received an invitation to a press tour of Kaliningrad.
The 5th Summer School of Journalism brought together over 100 students from Russian and international universities in Moscow. The project is being implemented by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science jointly with the Russian Technological University (RTU MIREA).
Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, emphasized that the Summer School of Journalism has become a traditional platform for exchanging experiences between representatives of student media centers across the country.
Over the course of five days, participants completed an intensive educational program: lectures, master classes, and practical seminars from leading media industry experts.
"The most valuable part of the forum was meeting talented media professionals. We were very lucky with our team: on the very first day, we found common ground and worked as a single unit, even though we hadn't met before. I was especially impressed by the speakers from the country's leading media companies, with whom we discussed trends in modern journalism," says Derzhavin University student Victoria Nikitina. "Now I'll apply the knowledge I've gained at the university media center. My plans include filming and editing videos, because high-quality visuals are essential these days. I want to explore different formats, not limit myself to one genre, and grow as a versatile specialist."
The training culminated in the defense of original projects. The assignment required us to present a section for the student media center of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, "SMS." It included the theme of the unity of the peoples of Russia.
"We decided to reveal the cultural code of our regions through iconic phrases. The format of the column combined vertical videos with informational inserts and short ironic sketches. For the Tambov region, we revealed the story behind the song 'A Boy Wants to Go to Tambov,'" noted Anastasia Kostina. "The summer journalism school helped me hone many skills: from creating engaging content to working with professional journalism techniques. In the future, I'd like to pursue a career in sports media, working for a football club and creating creative content.
