Athletes from Derzhavin University won silver medals at the All-Russian Student Polyathlon Competition. The tournament, which brought together 40 of the best athletes from eight Russian regions, was held in Gubkin, Belgorod Oblast.
The competition was held in the Pentathlon and Running disciplines for the 17-25 age group.
The program included the following events: 100-meter dash, projectile throw (700 grams), air rifle shooting, 100-meter swim, and 3-kilometer cross-country run.
In the individual boys' competition, first-year master's student Dmitry Yudin from Derzhavin University took second place. In a close battle, he lost to the tournament winner, Vadim Ivanov from I.N. Ulyanov Chuvashia State University, by just one point. In the women's competition, students from the Derzhavin Faculty of Physical Education and Sports demonstrated impressive results: first-year student Anastasia Shvetsova placed sixth, and second-year student Sofia Smirnova took eighth place.
In the overall team competition, the Derzhavin team finished second, behind the team from the Kuban State Institute of Physical Education, Sports, and Tourism. Athletes from the National Research University Higher School of Economics rounded out the top three.
The Russian Youth Championship was held concurrently, with Derzhavin University representatives taking third place among regional sports clubs.
Preparation for the tournament was led by Vladislav Kamenskikh, head coach of Derzhavin University's polyathlon team. Daily training included comprehensive sprinting, swimming, endurance running, and shooting.
The Derzhavin team's athletic achievements were the result of the athletes' high dedication and the professionalism of the coaching staff.
