From January 20 to 22, one of the most prestigious Sambo competitions of the year, the Russian Junior Sambo Championship for men and women under 24, took place in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Region.
Egor Efimov and Rustam Baytuev, second-year students from the Institute of Medicine and Health Promotion at Derzhavin University, competed in the tournament. Both athletes placed among the medalists: Yegor narrowly missed out on victory in the 71 kg weight class, while Rustam finished in the top three in the 79 kg weight class
"This is my first competition after a long hiatus due to injury. Objectively assessing my own strength, I can say the competition was a success for me," noted Rustam Baytuev.
Now Derzhavin's sambo wrestlers have begun preparations for the Russian Championship, which will be held in March in St. Petersburg.
