Derzhavin University, at the invitation of the representative office of Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation in the Republic of Abkhazia, took part in the first international interuniversity educational exhibition in Sukhum. The exhibition was attended by representatives of 12 Russian universities and the children's technopark "Quantorium" from Tatarstan, who were supposed to introduce Abkhazian schoolchildren to the opportunities and educational programs of Russian universities.
The exhibition was visited by Russian Ambassador to Abkhazia Mikhail Shurgalin, Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Abkhazia Sergey Shamba, Minister of Education and Language Policy of the Republic of Abkhazia Inal Gablia, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Abkhazia Daur Kove, Heads of educational institutions of the Republic, teachers and high school students of Sukhum, Gagra, Gali and Gudauta districts.
– This is the first interuniversity educational exhibition in Abkhazia, – says Dmitry Fedotov, head of Rossotrudnichestvo in Abkhazia. – We tried to invite universities of different directions so that schoolchildren could get acquainted with the possibilities of admission to Russian universities in various fields of training. This year, according to the quota of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, 110 places were allocated for Abkhazian applicants, including in the specialty of secondary vocational education.
During the meeting with representatives of Derzhavin University, Dmitry Fedotov expressed readiness to cooperate with the University in the field of popularization of Russian education, promotion of the Russian language and preservation of historical memory.
Director of the Department of International Relations Irina Bezukladova presented the educational programs of Derzhavin University to teachers and high school students at the exhibition. The greatest interest among schoolchildren was aroused by IT-areas, medical specialties and areas of training in the field of physical education and sports.
Derzhavin University has been cooperating with educational organizations and relevant ministries of the Republic of Abkhazia for the last two years. The prospects of cooperation for the implementation of educational and socio-cultural projects were discussed by the delegation of Derzhavin University during the exhibition with the head of the Department of Education of the Administration of Sukhum, Astanda Tarkil, Director of the National Library of the Republic of Abkhazia Boris Cholaria and the leadership of the State Committee of the Republic of Abkhazia for Youth and Sports.
