The cultural and educational project "Turning the Pages of History" dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the formation of the Faculty of History, was presented at the Museum of the History of Derzhavin University. The thematic exhibition, telling about the milestones of development, scientific research and achievements of the Tambov historical school, events and destinies, brought together university teachers, scientists, local historians, public figures and students
The exhibition tells in chronological order about significant moments in the life of the oldest faculty of Derzhavin University. Here are presented memorable photographs, archival documents, items from personal collections, monographs, teaching aids, etc.
– The Derzhavin University History Museum was opened in 2006, and its curators were leading scholars of the History Department. The exhibition, dedicated to the anniversary of the History Department, was preceded by careful work with the museum funds. Many materials were provided by teachers and graduates of the university, – says Irina Matorina, director of the Derzhavin University Museum and Exhibition Complex. – The exhibition space presents exhibits telling about the development of historical education in the Tambov region, sources from the period of the Great Patriotic War and the post-war era. A special place is occupied by materials about the life of the department in the 70s-90s – photographs of archaeological practice, work of the student construction teams "Brigantina" and "Sculptor", sports life, KVN, intellectual games.
On this day, an exhibition dedicated to the memory of the historian, political scientist, teacher, professor Arutyun Gurgenovich Airapetov (1950-2019) was also opened. April 8, 2025 marked the 75th anniversary of his birth.
A.G. Airapetov is a graduate of the History Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University, where he subsequently completed his postgraduate studies (1972–1975). He chose the history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire of the late 19th and early 20th centuries as the main focus of his scientific research. His mentors were prominent Soviet and Russian scholars, specialists in modern and contemporary history of European countries – Ilya Galkin, Nikolai Ovcharenko, Tofik Muslim oglu Islamov.
In 1976, he was assigned to TSPI (today Derzhavin University), where he taught at the History Department for over 40 years (1976–2019). For almost a quarter of a century (since 1990), he headed the Department of General History.
Arutyun Gurgenovich headed the Regional Branch of the Russian Society of Intellectual History. Member of the editorial board of the "Russian-Austrian Almanac". H also took an active part in the preparation of the "Tambov Encyclopedia".
The exhibition dedicated to the outstanding scientist profiles his scientific activity, defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations, and public work. Special words of gratitude for the invaluable professional experience were expressed by colleagues - teachers of the Derzhavin University's Faculty of History, Political Science and Journalism - Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Romanov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Valery Kanishchev, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Yuri Mizis.
- Arutyun Gurgenovich Airapetov made a significant personal contribution to the development of Derzhavin University. He is a large-scale personality - an intellectual scientist with a rare scientific specialty of Hungarian studies, who spoke Hungarian perfectly. His professional activity gave impetus to the development of world history at the University, - said Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Romanov. - I would like to separately note his wonderful human qualities - intelligence, modesty, exceptional self-discipline, high communication culture. Today, the scientist's work is continued by his students.
