During the "Government Hour" at the plenary session of the State Duma, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov cited the experience of the Tambov Region, where Derzhavin University is building a rental house, as an example of solving the housing problem of students.
The Minister told parliamentarians about initiatives to support students and projects to provide them with housing. The country has a problem with the availability of dormitories. 3,022 dormitories (16.5 million square meters of total area), where 774 thousand students live, do not meet the demand. Moreover, 2/3 of the dormitories were built more than 50 years ago. There are two ways 800 dormitories of the Ministry of Higher Education system will be repaired by 2030.
In the 3rd quarter of 2025, a 16-storey rental building with an area of over 7,000 sq. m. will be built on the campus of Derzhavin University. It will be sublet to students, student families with children, and visiting teachers. The university will receive fully renovated, furnished and equipped one- and two-room apartments. After the developer (Megapolis) hands over the building, DOM.RF will enter into a long-term lease agreement with Derzhavin University.
