The Tenth International Educational Campaign “Geographical Dictation” took place at Derzhavin University. The University became the main regional platform, opening its doors for 270 participants - school and college students, students and teachers of the university, teachers and the public of Tambov.
The welcoming speech was given by Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Tambov Region Alla Albegova and Vice-Rector for Education, Youth Policy and Educational Work of Derzhavin University Yana Radyukova. The dictation was conducted by the Chairperson of the Tambov Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology and Nature Management of Derzhavin University Elena Inyakina and a postgraduate student of the department, Deputy Head of the Youth Center of the Russian Geographical Society of the Region Daniil Vyalkin. Volunteers of the educational event were students of the university - members of the Youth Center of the Russian Geographical Society of the Region under the leadership of Igor Petrov.
Participants of the international event answered 40 questions on Russian geography. This year, amateur authors who took part in the contest “Write your own question for the Geographical Dictation” wrote more than 90% of the dictation tasks. The video presentation was voiced by famous cultural figures, as well as the voices of Russian literature classics synthesized with the help of artificial intelligence.
- Every year for ten years my students have been participating in the International Geographical Dictation. It has become a good tradition for us and an opportunity to consolidate theoretical knowledge. The questions of the dictation arouse a keen interest in geography and broaden horizons. After the event was over, it was pleasant to watch students’ actively discussing possible answers, – shared Honored Teacher of the Russian Federation Elena Ishina. – On behalf of the teaching community, I would like to express my gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Tambov Region, the rector’s office of Derzhavin University for supporting the event in the region and the opportunity to take part in the Geographical Dictation.
In the Tambov Region, the Geographical Dictation was held at 86 regional sites, attracting about 3,000 geography enthusiasts. The Russian Geographical Society organizes such a large-scale introduction to geographical knowledge.
The dictation has been held since 2015 on the initiative of the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society Vladimir Putin and is aimed at popularizing knowledge and increasing interest in the geography of Russia.
