In Derzhavin University medical volunteers discussed the results of the work of the Tambov regional branch of the All-Russian public movement “Medical Volunteers” over the past year and outlined promising areas of volunteer work in the healthcare sector. In 2023 medical volunteers took part in 450 events and provided assistance and support to more than 24.5 thousand people. University medical volunteers provided assistance in several areas: health education, volunteer assistance in medical organizations, first aid training and event support, programs for schoolchildren, healthy lifestyles, promotion of human donation, psychological assistance and special projects. The Tambov branch of medical volunteers employs more than 300 students and about 150 schoolchildren.
Over seven years about 1,500 volunteers were involved in medical volunteering. Last year participants in the volunteer movement held all-Russian events: “Stop HIV/AIDS”, “Diabetes is not sugar”, “Be healthy!”, “Protecting hearts”, “Cancer fears the brave”, “Let’s free Russia from tobacco smoke”, “Health” joints are in good hands.” University and city events were not complete without volunteers in the healthcare sector. Student volunteers provided medical support at the Derzhavinskaya ski track, the Derzhavinskaya mile, the Immortal Regiment, the Russian Federation Race, Library Night and many other public events. Volunteer doctors helped junior and mid-level medical personnel in medical institutions in the Tambov region. In the villages of the Tambov region, volunteers carried out the “Welcome to the Village” campaign. Together with paramedics they conducted door-to-door visits, conducted preventive conversations with the population and promoted a healthy lifestyle. Medical volunteers organized and participated in events to popularize human blood donation. Over the past year, volunteers donated 19 liters of donor blood.
The “Medical Volunteers” movement in the Tambov region continues to develop in schools. Teams of medical volunteers operate in 14 educational organizations in the region. Volunteer doctors carried out extensive career guidance work among high school students in the city and region. In 38 schools in the region, volunteers introduced students in grades 9 and 11 to the medical specialties of Derzhavin University and shared their experience in choosing a profession.
The students from the volunteer team of doctors became participants in special projects: “Volunteer Medical School 2.0” and the intra-university Olympiad “Wise Tooth”. They also participated in the All-Russian campaign #WeAreTogether and the VII All-Russian Forum of Medical Volunteers “Generation of Healthy Lifestyle”. In the summer of 2023 a meeting was held with the Lugansk regional branch of “Medical Volunteers” in Tambov. Participants exchanged experience in volunteering in the healthcare sector in each region and discussed promising areas for the development of the volunteer movement in Tambov and Lugansk.
