All-Russian student volleyball competitions were held in St. Petersburg. The competition was attended by 16 of the country's strongest student teams, leaders of zonal competitions. The Derzhavin University team played 6 matches in the tournament and became bronze medalists.
In the competition, Sergey Shpagin's team won a game against the team from Kostroma in the semi-final stage. After that, our players had to play a match for 3-4 places in the competition. The Derzhavin team's opponent was the team of the Dagestan State University, the winner of the Universiade 2024. The result of the meeting was a beautiful victory in three sets for our volleyball players.
– The level of student competitions in Russia is growing every year, many teams are strengthened by Super League players, and spectacular matches always await us at the final stages, says Sergey Shpagin, coach of the Derzhava men's volleyball club. – The competition at the finals of student competitions begins from the first rally, the games keep all the fans in suspense. I thank the team for a good and well-coordinated game.
In addition, Derzhava volleyball player Grigory Kupriyanov received an individual award – the best blocker of the competition.
The team has a vacation ahead, but according to the coaching staff, the guys are already starting to get ready for the next sports season and are preparing to perform at the Universiade.
