Pavel Moiseev, Rector of Derzhavin University, made a speech at a roundtable discussion held by the Council for the Federation Committee for Foreign Affairs. The meeting focused on the current state and prospects for public diplomacy in Russia. Participants discussed key challenges and issues related to training professionals for this field. The Rector presented a report on the potential of regional universities as public diplomacy actors. It was based on the successful international experience of Derzhavin University.
- Firstly, the role of universities in Russia's international humanitarian cooperation will only increase, as many public diplomacy organizations have been subject to sanctions, - said Pavel Moiseev. - Secondly, universities can actively participate in building international ties between regions and regional businesses. Unfortunately, this is not yet in high demand. And thirdly, it is crucial to invest resources in international alumni associations now. This will enhance the university's reputation in the international educational market and promote a positive image of Russia worldwide.
The roundtable participants have come to conclusion that the potential of Russian public diplomacy can only be truly understood and appreciated by taking into account regional initiatives. These include cultural exchanges, educational programs, and joint research projects with representatives of friendly countries. The potential of regional universities in this area is undeniable.
- Public diplomacy should become a function of Russian universities. But we shouldn't limit ourselves to soft power alone, - noted Pavel Moiseev. - Universities cannot only actively export education but also facilitate regional diplomacy, attract investment, and promote regional exports in the broadest sense.
