As part of the celebration of Russian Science Day, a roundtable discussion on the region's bioeconomy development prospects was held in Derzhavin university. Representatives of the Ministry of Economic and Investment Policy of the Tambov Region, the Tambov Region Development Corporation, Derzhavin Tambov State University, TSTU, the I.V. Michurin Federal Scientific Center, the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center, the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, and Argonaut Group LLC participated in the discussion.
Professor Alexander Gusev, Vice-Rector for Research and Doctor of Biological Sciences, delivered a welcoming speech and a report on the scientific and technological potential of Derzhavin University.
Vice President for Bioeconomy of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center and President of the Yury Ovchinnikov Russian Society of Biotechnologists, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Raif Vasilov discussed the prospects for implementing the national project "Bioeconomy" in the Tambov Region.
Acting Minister of Economic and Investment Policy of the Tambov Region, Ivan Safronov, reported on the current state of the region's economy and the challenges facing its scientific and technological development. Maxim Sestrukhin, Head of the Tambov Region Development Corporation, continued this theme with a report titled "The Region's Investment Potential (Current and Potential Sites and Support Measures)."
A review report by Ekaterina Titova, PhD in Economics and leading research fellow at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics' Research Institute for Education Development, on "Current Issues in Developing the Bioeconomy Ecosystem in Russia's Regions," generated keen interest.
The meeting discussed current opportunities and emerging challenges for regional development in the bioeconomy, and proposed specific measures to increase investment, stimulate scientific research, and implement new technologies that contribute to the conservation of natural resources. Particular attention was paid to supporting agriculture, biotechnology, and the sustainable use of natural resources in the Tambov Region. Participants noted the region's significant potential for creating new jobs and increasing environmental responsibility.
The roundtable concluded with a resolution, calling for continued dialogue and joint action to implement strategic initiatives in the bioeconomy, which will help make the Tambov Region a leader in this promising field. Experts discussed the possibility of concluding a cooperation agreement with the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center for the development and implementation of a Bioeconomy Development Strategy for the Tambov Region through 2036. The resolution also included a resolution to support the initiative of Derzhavin Tambov State University and the region's scientific community and to petition the Board of the Yury Ovchinnikov Society of Biotechnologists of Russia to establish a regional branch of the Society at Derzhavin University.
