The 2nd International Derzhavin History Olympiad, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the end of World War II, was held at Derzhavin Tambov State University and Samarkand State University named after Sharof Rashidov. This year, the Olympiad took place as part of Derzhavin University’s project "Days of Universities of the Republic of Uzbekistan."
More than 200 students from Derzhavin University, Samarkand State University, and school students from Uzbekistan participated in the intellectual competition. The Olympiad was conducted in two stages – in-person and remote. The in-person round was held simultaneously at both universities in an online format. The jury included professors from the Faculty of History, Political Science, and Journalism at Derzhavin University and the Faculty of History at Samarkand State University.
The Olympiad focused on assessing participants' knowledge of historical chronology, their ability to analyze historical and bibliographic sources, and their skills in establishing cause-and-effect relationships in historical processes.
Natalia Strekalova, Head of the Department of History and Philosophy, noted:
- The Olympiad tasks were related to the events of the Great Patriotic War and World War II, allowing participants to revisit the lessons of history, the high price of the Soviet people’s Victory, and the importance of peace and unity. The final stage included presentations on debatable issues, such as the contributions of home front workers from the Tambov Region and Uzbekistan to the common Victory over fascism, as well as the depiction of wartime realities in literature, art, and cinema.
The International Derzhavin History Olympiad will continue in 2026, focusing on other relevant historical issues.
