The Derzhavin Mile 2024, a cross-country race, was held in Druzhba Park (Friendship Park). It was dedicated to the 87th anniversary of the Tambov Region.
Before the start of the competition, Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, addressed the participants and guests with a welcoming speech. She congratulated the participants on this significant occasion and noted the importance of such events for the development of physical education and sports among young people.
Traditionally, students, teachers, employees, graduates of Derzhavin University, as well as families, schoolchildren of the region and professional athletes take part in the race.
- The Derzhavin Mile was held for the first time in 2017 on the initiative of Rector Vladimir Stromov. - comments Pavel Moiseev, Rector of Derzhavin University. - Today, this is not just a city event, but an interregional one, which annually brings together thousands of participants from all over the Tambov Region and other regions of the country. This year, in addition to professional starts, the sports program includes a family race and Nordic walking. In this way, we popularize mass sports and try to increase the number of those who strive for a healthy lifestyle. This is the basis for national well-being and achieving the national goal.
Students, teachers, staff members, graduates of Derzhavin University, families and schoolchildren covered a distance of 1918 meters - in honor of the year of foundation of Derzhavin University.
The best among schoolchildren were Nikita Subbotin and Varvara Nechaeva, second place was taken by Vladislav Popov and Alexandra Sharkova, third place by Andrey Loskutov and Milana Klimova.
Among students, Nikita Tryakin came first to the finish line, Saveliy Baranov was second, and third place was taken by Maxim Yurov. Among female students, the best on the distance was Nadezhda Bazykina, Maria Zakharova in second place, Valeria Kotova - in third.
– This the first time I have participated in the Derzhavin Mile. For me, this is a way to test my strength and assess my capabilities, because I have been involved in sports for more than seven years, – says Nikita Tryakin, a first-year student at the Institute of Law and National Security. – It was not easy to run, because the distance is quite short, and you need to do your best right from the start. I am very pleased with my result, although the victory was unexpected for me today, because my opponents were very worthy. I am sure that in the future I will be able to improve my results and continue to develop in sports. In the race for teachers, employees and graduates of Derzhavin University, the best result was shown by Tatyana Nechaeva. Daria Moreva came in second, and Maria Kotova came in third. Among men, Sergey Sysoev took first place, Vadim Kharin came in second, and Dmitry Medvedev came in third.
– It is the third time today I have taken part in the Derzhavin Mile. Each race is an opportunity to test my strength and fitness. I always strive to improve my results, – says Sergey Sysoev, a graduate of Derzhavin University. – Today, like last year, I am among the winners, and I am really happy about that. It is important for me not only to win, but also to inspire other participants to achieve sporting success.
2024 is the Year of the Family. So a special race for families was held as well. 23 families from the Tambov Region took part in the race. The Balbekov family came in first place. The Litvinov family came in second, and the Naldeyevs came in third.
– Today we are having a really wonderful event, which we have been participating in for several years, – comments Alexey, the head of the Balbekov family. – We’ve been preparing for the competition, we have been training a lot, we have passed the GTO (Ready for Labor and Defense) standards. And we’ve run this distance several times. Today, we have achieved success, and this is the most important thing.
More than 200 professional athletes took part in the 9 and 21.1 km distances. These are participants from seven regions of Russia: Tambov, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Saratov, Kaluga regions, the city of Moscow and the Moscow region, and the Udmurt Republic.
Nikita Smirnov and Polina Tetushkina became absolute winners in the 9 km distance. Among Derzhavin residents, Nikita Smirnov and Angelina Gorlova showed the best result in the 9 km distance, Alexey Antonyuk and Anna Savchenko took second place, and German Kriventsev and Irina Aksenova took third place.
Elbuanani Saidzhdin and Olga Naidenova showed the best result in the 21.1 km distance.
– I am a regular participant in University sports events, where I have been working for over 20 years, – says Alexey Antonyuk, PhD, Associate Professor at the Department of Strategic Economic Development at Derzhavin University. – Today I ran 9 kilometers. I really enjoyed the distance. I ran better than I planned. My competitors gave me a chance to work, and the great weather only added to the positive emotions.
A concert program, kettlebell lifting competitions and a prize drawing were held for all guests of the sporting event. In total, over 3,500 people visited the Derzhavin Mile 2024.
