The scientific and educational project "Biotechnologies of the Future" has launched at Derzhavin University. It is being implemented in collaboration with its partner university, the Belarusian State University (BSU). The project's goals are to expand partnerships in the areas of cutting-edge biotechnology research and education, promote the integration of Russian and Belarusian universities and research institutes, and develop and implement innovative biotechnologies in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
The project will run until December of this year. The first stage is the School of Biotechnology, which is being held at Derzhavin University from April 6 to 10 as part of the Network University of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Tambov State University named after G.R. Derzhavin and the Belarusian State University are members of this consortium.
"The implementation of this important biotechnology project by Derzhavin University and Belarusian State University, partner universities and equal members of the CIS Network University Consortium, will significantly promote Russian education in Belarus," says Pavel Moiseev, Rector of Derzhavin University. "The project will expand the knowledge and practical skills of students from both universities in the field of biotechnology. Its key objective is to develop a new generation of highly qualified specialists for the modern biotechnology industry and science, as well as to strengthen international ties and academic mobility."
Participants in the School of Biotechnology—students and faculty from Derzhavin University and Belarusian State University—will immerse themselves in the practical work of microbiologists in biotechnology production. This will be made possible by participating in master classes held at Derzhavin University's Industrial Microbiology Engineering Center. Students will master all the key stages of microbial fermentation—from the preparation of stock cultures to the production of final products.
In addition, a visit to the youth laboratory of Tambov State University named after G.R. Derzhavin University's "Algal Biotechnology" project. Participants will meet with young scientists from Derzhavin University and learn about cutting-edge microalgae techniques. Students will also participate in daily specialized master classes.
As part of the project, participants will be able to begin research on their chosen topic using Derzhavin University's resources. The subsequent phase of research is planned to be conducted at the Belarusian State University. To ensure continuous collaboration, regular roundtables, meetings, and online conferences are planned, as well as the preparation of joint publications from April to December.
The final stage will be the organization of a joint school at BSU in November, designed to consolidate the research results and summarize the project's outcomes.
