The University League of Science Slam battles took place in Derzhavin University for the third time. This is an all-Russian project to popularize science, research and the formation of the image of a modern scientist, increasing the prestige of the profession. Five participants presented their 10-minute research to the audience in an accessible and interesting way.
Sofia Nikitina, a third-year student of the Secondary Professional Education majoring in Nursing, spoke about the prospects for using artificial intelligence in psychiatry and explained that today it is no longer science fiction. Elizaveta Syusina, a third-year student majoring in Pedagogical Education with Two Areas Of Specialization (History and Social Science), immersed the audience in the history of fragrances from the 16th to 19th centuries and lifted the veil of secrecy over how diseases were previously treated with various smells. Stanislav Bulochnikov, a third-year student majoring in Judicial and Prosecutor's Activity, proved why artificial intelligence can be a criminal and why it is important to take this into account in our age of technology. Angelina Elatomtseva, a third-year student majoring in Ecology and Nature Management, described the problem of the spread of microplastics in the modern world and its impact on the environment and human life. Zoya Grechishnikova , a fourth-year student of the Secondary Professional Education majoring in Nursing, presented the key differences between female and male heart attacks, based on the latest research and scientific data. The best slammer was determined by the audience with their applause, the volume and duration of which were measured by the organizers with a noise meter.

- It was not just a competition, but a real festival of science and knowledge. The atmosphere was filled with energy and enthusiasm, each participant sought to demonstrate their best qualities, - Stanislav Bulochnikov shared his emotions from the performance. – Back at school, two areas were of greatest interest to me: law and IT. Since my first year of study at Derzhavin University, I have been engaged in innovations in law as an interesting related field for me. In jurisprudence, it is difficult to present material with humor and interactivity. I took some details from the format of the MSU Pseudoscience, and Kirill Smelkov, a participant of previous Science Slams at Derzhavin University, and Associate Professor Svetlana Vorobyova, my teacher helped me a lot with their advice.
Under support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, at least 80 university scientific battles will be held throughout Russia in 2024. The winners will represent the university at the regional stage, and then compete in the All-Russian University Scientific Battle.
