The annual Moscow Marathon, a 42.2-kilometer race, took place in Moscow. More than 60 streets in the capital were closed for the race. Athletes started on Lenin Hills and ran through sections of the Garden and Boulevard Rings. They ran past the Bolshoi Theatre and the Kremlin, and finished at Luzhniki Stadium.
Around 20,000 people from 65 countries participated in the race. Among them were Kartik Karkera, a Derzhavin University graduate from India, Sifaddine El Bouanani, a resident at the Institute of Medicine and Health Protection, and Mikhail Bespalov, chief accountant at Tambov State University.
Kartik Karkera, a TSU graduate in General Medicine, won the 2023 Luzhniki Half Marathon in Moscow. He ran the 21.1 km distance. The young man became interested in running in his first year at the University and trained under the guidance of Vladislav Kamensky.
- I came to Moscow from India specifically to participate in this marathon. I'm really grateful that the University still remembers me! During my studies, they always supported my athletic career, - says Kartik Karkera.
University representatives presented Kartik with souvenirs from the rector and an invitation to become an honorary member of the International Alumni Association.
