Derzhavin University has launched its eleventh “University Session” of the year, welcoming 50 schoolchildren from the Republic of Abkhazia to its campus for a week.
The first day began with a formal assembly, the raising of the national flags of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Abkhazia, and the performance of the two national anthems. The schoolchildren also attended the official opening ceremony and met the university's leadership. An extensive programme awaits them, featuring workshops organised by university institutes and faculties on topics including modern electronics explained in accessible terms, judicial protection of civil rights, 3D modelling, video blogging, still-life painting on canvas and first aid, along with sporting activities. They will enjoy guided tours of historic Tambov, a “Friendship of Peoples” concert and a “Battle of the Choirs.” A special day dedicated to the Movement of the First will be organised for the visitors from Abkhazia, alongside a wide range of leisure activities.
Derzhavin Tambov State University is a university committed to public diplomacy. This project is another step towards strengthening the sister-city ties between Sukhum and Tambov and developing humanitarian and educational dialogue between the two cities and countries.
The university expresses its gratitude to the Sukhum city administration and its partner organisation, the Centre for Public Diplomacy, for facilitating the participation of the group of Abkhazian schoolchildren.
The “University Sessions” project is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Russian Nationwide Public and State Movement of Children and Youth “Movement of the First,” and the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh).
